Guide for Finding Great Bunk Beds or Baby Cribs for Sale
If your new baby has just arrived, this simply implies that you have to move your older kids from their cots into more appropriate beds so as to make room for the new addition in your family. And not only that, but you are going to surely want to invest in a high quality toddler bed. For the older kids, they will need kids bed furniture of their own. If space is a problem, and you wanted to see your children share the same room in the near future, buying a bunk bed furniture is always the best option. This bed type has since been popular due to its space saving solutions that comes in a whole range of size, style and features in the market. For your infant or your adolescents, it’s important to have an informed opinion when choosing beds for kids!
It’s pretty much accepted that your kids are more likely to injure themselves in a fall from bunk bed furniture than they are from, say, your typical trundle bed. Try to remember that a single fall could result in serious injuries, and take the necessary precautions. These same precautions should go double for toddler beds and baby cribs, as infants and toddlers are far less resistant than older kids to pain or injury.
It is often playing, rather than sleeping that result in these kinds of accidents when older kids are involved. Toddlers and babies, however, don’t often play too strenuously in their cribs; they are more likely to be injured during sleep, when they toss and turn. Make sure your toddler bed or baby crib is very comfortable, and also, make sure that it features the necessary guard rails to prevent a child from rolling out. These gates should be tall, sturdy, and reinforced.
An older kids loft bed or bunk should be stable and strongly made, too. An on-the-spot test is necessary in order to ensure that your bed choice can hold all the weight of your children. What you can do to start the test is to place your foot against the foot of the bunk and then try to pull it towards you. Remember that you should not be able to raise the bed posts off the ground even though you are a reasonably strong person.
At a minimum, choose the lowest kids bed bunk. The lower the bunk, the lesser risk of encountering injuries. According to safety rules, the recommended bunk height is 1550 mm to the top of the upper mattress. Such height is enough to prevent your children from having bruises and broken arms in case they fall from the bed.
The design of the bunk bed furniture should not have any hanging points where the clothes of children can get caught up, and there should be no gaps or holes that could trap the head, legs or arms. Unless it is bolted to the wall, the bunk should have guardrails on both the wall side as well as the side facing the door in order to prevent the child from slipping down the gap or trapping their heads. It is also important that the release mechanism of the guardrails is strong enough, so that the children will not release them accidentally. As for the mattresses, make use of the mattress height indicator to properly select the right ones for your children; remember that if a mattress is too thick it can reduce the effectiveness of the safety rails.
Obviously, for baby cribs or toddler beds, a bunk system is a bad idea unless absolutely necessary. Bunk cribs do exist, and they can be quite lovely, but the risks typically outweigh the strengths. Make sure that your baby crib has smooth edges so as not to harm your infant, and also make sure it is tall enough that your baby can’t climb out and accidentally hurt himself.
It is not easy to pick a kids bed or baby crib, especially if you have to consider your children’s room space. The most logical option to go for is that of bunk bed furniture for older kids because it can hold two children at one time without consuming too much space. For toddlers and infants, there are many great cribs for sale and infant beds available online. Before buying one, make sure that your bed choice has features that are safe and functional.
